Privacy Policy
This policy describes how the Finance BitBox macOS application (“App”) processes information when you use it. The App is built for personal finance tracking with a strong bias toward local, on-device storage.
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to you when you install and use Finance BitBox on your Mac. It does not cover websites or services we do not operate, except where we explain third-party behavior below.
2. Data we process and where it lives
2.1 Local storage on your Mac
Your financial data — including transactions, categories, assets, budgets, reports, recurring rules, and related settings — is stored locally on your device, using files on disk (including structured data such as JSON as part of the App’s design). We do not operate a mandatory cloud that receives this core ledger by default.
2.2 Account and sign-in (local)
If you use in-app registration, the App may store on your device:
- name and email you provide;
- credentials used for local authentication (handled on-device, not sent to our servers for sign-in, as the App has no central account backend described here).
You may sign out or delete your account from the App. Deleting the account or removing the App (and its data) erases that information from your device subject to your system’s own backup and file behavior.
2.3 Optional network features
When you enable online features, the App may connect to third parties. Data leaving your device is limited to what those connections require.
- Market data (e.g. cryptocurrency quotes): To show live or periodically refreshed prices, the App may request public market data from providers (such as the Binance API). Those requests typically do not need your name, email, or full transaction history; they may include identifiers or parameters required by the provider (for example, trading pair symbols) and standard technical data (such as IP address as seen by the provider).
- Version or integrity checks (e.g. blockchain): The App may perform lightweight checks (for example, against the Polygon network) to verify build or version information. Such requests are technical in nature and are not intended to upload your personal finance entries.
You can control related options in Settings (for example, enabling or disabling live prices and refresh intervals, where available).
3. How we use your information
On-device data is used to power App features, including but not limited to:
- authentication and profile display;
- dashboard, portfolio, transactions, categories, reports, and recurring entries;
- calculators and currency or crypto conversion where you request it;
- export to CSV when you choose to export.
We do not sell your personal financial history as a product. There is no advertising profile described in the App’s default operation.
4. Sharing
Core ledger data stays on your Mac unless you export it, copy it, or cause it to leave the device (for example, by sharing an exported file, or by network calls you enable as described above).
Third-party services (such as market data or network endpoints) process data under their own policies when your device contacts them.
5. Retention and deletion
Data remains on your device until you remove it (for example via “Reset all data,” account deletion, or uninstalling the App and deleting its container files). Backups (Time Machine, iCloud Drive if you store files there, etc.) may retain copies according to your system settings — that is outside the App’s direct control.
6. Security
You are responsible for physical access to your Mac, system password, and file permissions. We recommend full-disk encryption and regular system updates. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
7. Children
The App is not directed at children. If you are a parent and believe a child has submitted personal data in a way that concerns you, remove the App data from the device or write to financebitbox@gmail.com.
8. International users
Your data is processed on your device. If you use network features, information may be processed in regions where those third-party services operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
